Everyone would concur if you polled students who have lived in France that organizing for the CAF is one of the most challenging aspects of relocating to France.
Foreign students, like French students, can seek assistance from the Caisse d'allocations familiales (Caf) in case of financial difficulties. In order to lower their rent, they might apply for individualized housing aid (APL). The majority of the time, this financial assistance is disbursed to the host home or the student's bank account, which is then disbursed to the landlord. Before accepting an accommodation, it is critical to establish if it is APL-eligible. The applicant must provide their social security number.
For students who are visiting France for the first time, this may be challenging. As a result, we made an effort to gather the data for you for the Application :
Online applications are possible without a social security number.
Create an account by first requesting housing aid on caf.fr. You will receive a temporary identification so you may carry on with your online transaction (the temporary identifier is composed of the letter P and 8 digits). You can access the My Account section with the help of this identifier.
The Caf will provide you with a waiting social security number after your application has been finalized. You can use it to connect to your Mon Compte space to complete tasks, monitor the status of your applications, and make payments.
Please remember to provide Caf an identifying document so that the processing of your application can be facilitated (identity card or passport) and a civil status document (birth certificate).
Additionally, having an accompaniment is occasionally required because it might rapidly appear challenging to someone who is unfamiliar with it. In our article "How to Feel at Home at the Faculty Jean Monnet?," we mention the GATE program offered by the University of Paris-Saclay as being used for this purpose.
To learn more, you can read this one. The International Welcome Desk in Orsay can schedule an appointment for a student since the GATE Welcome Desk is only open from August to December.
To schedule an appointment, we cordially invite you to send an email to international.welcomedesk@universite-paris-saclay.fr. It is preferable to specify a need with the CAF in order to obtain the best support.
We sincerely hope that you can get competent assistance and that your time at Paris Saclay University in France will be entertaining.
