Finding the best way to get around as a student is quite important. Students in France are required to be flexible in their travels for classes, student jobs, extracurricular activities and more. We propose you to list the offers available in Île de FranceIle Ile-de-France to access the faculty and the surrounding areas. If you arrive in France by plane, two airports are in the Paris area.

  1. The Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport (CDG), This airport is in the north-east of the city. It has three terminals (T1, T2, T3). To get from one terminal to another, you can take the free CDGVAL automatic metro

  2. The Orly International Airport This airport is located south of Paris and has four terminals, Orly 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Leaving the airports, you can take the RER B by paying a ticket, the price varies depending on the area you are going to. This is because The Paris Region is divided into 5 zones. Zone 1 corresponds to Paris, and zones 2, 3, 4, and 5 to the outskirts. See the map to help plan your journeys, consult the Via Navigo website or the City Mapper app for further information about purchasing tickets, go to the RATP website.

Once you are settled in the Paris area, you can have a subscription thanks to your Navigo card that you must ask for.

There are two types of subscriptions:

  • Imagine’R pass for students under 26 years of age for all zones 1 to 5. Examples of 2021 prices: €350 + €8 administration fee (12-month subscription).

  • Navigo pass Available by the week or month. Examples of 2021 prices: Zones 1 to 5: €22.80 per week or €75.20 per month.

You can take out a subscription online for the Navigo and Imagine’R cards on the Navigo website.

If your mobility lasts only one semester, the second situation will be the most suitable for you. Also keep in mind, you can cancel your Navigo subscription whenever you want:

• online from your personal Navigo account

• upon presentation of your Navigo Annual pass in a sales office

• by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt, addressed to the Agence Navigo Annuel.

If you are away for a specific period, you can also suspend your Navigo subscription. It is also important to mention other means of transportation such as the bike. Indeed, several areas close to Paris allow you to make a bike subscription. You can consult the Velib and Zoov website for more details on the services offered.

If you want to travel to other regions in France you can use trains, bus or do Car sharing.
